Woodley Grange help make Doreen’s wish come true!
What better way to spend a warm summer’s day than on a boat! As part of Woodley Grange’s Wish Maker campaign, one of our residents, Doreen, set sail on a very special trip from Southampton recently.
Doreen’s wish was to travel on a cruise ship. Unfortunately, due to many obstacles this wasn’t possible. Instead, with the help of Solent Dolphin – a registered charity that takes people with disabilities on day trips out to sea – the fantastic activities team at Woodley Grange pulled out all the stops to take Doreen on a private boat trip for the afternoon.
Setting sail from Hythe Marina, Doreen and her four guests, including other residents and her brother, enjoyed a leisurely 2-hour trip on the water, followed by a delicious lunch.

Commenting on her wish, Doreen, said: “The boat trip was excellent. It was lovely that my brother was asked if he wanted to come too. I would definitely go again if I had the chance, nothing was too much trouble for anyone. Thank you.”
Activities Coordinators at Woodley Grange, Amy Francis and Erica Orchard, added; “The trip was a big success, and it was lovely to see Doreen share this special moment with her brother. We would like to say a big thank you to Solent Dolphin for helping make this wish happen. It’s a fantastic charity that really makes a difference.”
