On Thursday 23rd April 2026, Barton Lodge held its first Celebration of Life event a special moment to honour and remember the residents who have been part of our home over the years.
Losing a resident is always deeply felt and we wanted to create something meaningful where families and our team could come together to reflect, remember and celebrate the lives of those who lived with us so happily. It was lovely to welcome 11 guests, including families we hadn’t seen for some time, who had shared such an important journey with us.
The ceremony took place in our dining area, where a thoughtful display had been created with rose petals, a lantern, heart-shaped LED candles and a memory book. It provided a calm and reflective space for everyone to gather.
Our Head of Care, Ioana, opened the ceremony with some heartfelt words, thanking families for the trust they placed in us to care for their loved ones. Christina, our Administrator, then read two beautiful poems, which were warmly received by those attending.
Guests were invited to light a candle in memory of their loved one and to share special memories in our Book of Memory, which will be kept here at Barton Lodge. It was a simple but meaningful way for everyone to take part and feel connected.
Afterwards, families enjoyed cakes and refreshments before moving outside into the garden. Together, we planted some of the plants that families had brought along. It was a particularly touching moment when one of the younger family members read a poem as the shrub was planted by our gardener, Gavin.
The afternoon was emotional but also filled with warmth, reflection and appreciation. It meant a great deal to hear how much the event was valued and we are pleased to share that we will now be holding a Celebration of Life event every two years.
We look forward to welcoming families back to Barton Lodge again soon, whether for future events or one of our Love Life Cafés.
